Born in Madrid, Alonso Lopez shot onto the motorcycle racing scene in 2013 after winning the Valencian 80cc Championship. He took the national Spanish title one year later, before getting the chance to move to the PreMoto3 category on a 250cc machine at the age of 13. He continued his winning streak to take the Championship in 2015. For the 2016 season, Lopez made his debut in the Moto3™ Junior World Championship with the Junior Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 and claimed two second-place finishes and finish fifth in the final standings. 2017 saw Lopez make another step forward to claim his first World Championship victory at Le Mans before taking a second win at the next round in Barcelona. One more win and two podiums would follow, before Estrella Galicia 0,0 promoted the 16-year-old to the Moto3™ World Championship for 2018. The season started well and Lopez was close to the podium at Jerez, but the latter half of the season was more difficult. Lopez finally tasted the podium in 2019 after battling to third place in Thailand. The Spaniard endured a difficult 2020 thereafter, and in 2021, he lost his full time seat on the grid. However, he was handed a reprieve in 2022, when he replaced Romano Fenati at Luca Boscoscuro’s Speed Up team in Moto2™, and he grabbed his opportunity with both hands. A stunning season saw him claim two victories and three further podiums as well as a handful of performances that saw him consistently finish among the quickest riders. That sensational run of form saw him remain with Speed Up in 2023, where he stood on the podium five times, including a second-place finish in Argentina. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to return to success in 2024.
